NETeller Alternatives - Online Poker Deposit Methods for Canadians
Online poker deposit methods for Canadian citizens & residents + Canada poker withdrawal methods.
Last Updated: Feb 3, 2008
Canadian NETeller Alternatives
Beginning April 9, 2007, NETeller will no longer allow Canadian citizens to deposit or withdraw from gambling sites. NETeller's withdrawal from the Canadian gaming market was not triggered by a change in Canadian laws, it was 100% voluntarily. The fact is, the Canadian governments stance on online poker has not changed in over 2 years, and our government did not put any pressure on NETeller! NETeller claims the decision was simply a "precautionary move" made by the company since they are Canadian based and own a large amount of Canadian real estate. It is rumoured, however, that the US Department of Justice had a lot to do with NETeller dropping out of the Canadian market (the US government arrested NETellers founders and is currently putting a lot of pressure on the company). Americans were creating Canadian bank accounts by the dozen in order to keep online gambling with ease, and as part of a plea bargen it is assumed NETellers founders agreed to pull the plug on Canada. This being said, every single online poker room & casino continues to allow Canadian players. Canadian poker players, however, will no longer be able to use Neteller as a deposit & withdrawal method and will now have to use various NETeller alternatives instead.

Prepaid Gift2Go Gift Cards (NEW)
Gift2Go Gift Cards - go to the local department or grocery store and look for Gift2Go prepaid gift cards (they have the "Visa" logo on the card). Using these gift cards you can immediately fund your poker account at pretty well any poker room (I have personally done it successfully at
PokerStars & AbsolutePoker). These cards are everywhere, I bought mine at Loblaws but I've seen them at tons of different stores. This works just like any Visa transaction but does not get declined like some Canadian credit cards (although majority of Canadian credit cards do work at online poker sites - try them first!). It costs $3.99 for a card and I believe you can get them up to $250. I've also heard $500 but haven't seen those. If you need to deposit more, buying multiple cards works like a charm (obviously you'll need to pay the $3.99 on each one, but that fee is WAY less than Neteller's 8.9% InstaCash fee). When depositing at a poker room with a 'Gift 2 Go' gift card, deposit in the same manner you would with a Visa credit card! Go to Deposit -> Credit Card -> VISA and enter your card number exactly how you would if it were a normal VISA card!

Prepaid VISA - you can also go to any bank and get prepaid Visa cards that work at poker rooms exactly like the Gift2Go gift cards above, only you can load way more money at a time. You can easily load money onto your prepaid Visa in the same way you'd pay off your normal credit card - online banking, direct deposit, Western Union, etc. Most of these prepaid Visa cards allow you to load up to $2,500 at once rather than buying a card for a pre determined amount. Most Payday Loan companies now carry these cards now, but they do cost about $9.99 to buy and some have other fees attached (although they are very minor). I have tried this method successfully at PokerStars with a prepaid Visa I purchased at MoneyMart.

Random Ramblings about Canadian Neteller Alternatives

I have played poker in most every province and city in Canada. While St. John's Newfoundland is very popular with poker, Fredericton, Moncton & Saint John New Brunswick do not have too much poker activity compared to Charlottetown and Halifax (both with poker rooms). Quebec (and especially Montreal) has a lot of gambling, and so does all the major Ontario cities such as Kingston, Brockville, Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, London, Windsor, and Saint Catherines Niagera. Winnepeg Manitoba and Regina Saskatchewan are both fairly popular with poker, as in Calgary & Edmonton Alberta. Vancouver and Victoria British Columbia have a lot of online poker rooms (such as pokerlistings) based out of their cities.

I have noticed that more and more Canada is becomming very similar to our neighbors to the south... unfortunately this means things such as NETeller eye Canada as a similar market as USA and sometimes seem to think that USA law has an effect on Canada. Because of this Neteller, GoldenPalace Casino, and others have pulled out of the Canadian market. GoldenPalace.com was a famous Poker Stars.de online casino, now Canadians are not allowed to play too! Online payment processor, Neteller, announced today that it is withdrawing from both the Canadian and Turkish markets. Cited as reason for the decision were “Recent actions by regulators, payment processors, and online gaming operators have increased Star Poker the uncertainty around certain activities related to online gambling in some jurisdiction.” Just use Western Union and you'll be fine....not that big of a deal I have only used Western Union and never had a problem..... If you are Canadian you can also use eWalletXpress.....better then Neteller in my opinion haven't heard a thing about any recent legislative changes. Not that it couldn't have passed me by, but it is highly unlikely that something has been proposed or passed given the state of the minority government and since most of the work is going into analyzing and passing the most recent federal budget.

The Canadian government would have a HUGE fight on their hands if they decided to go after the server farm in Quebec. This location is run by the Natives who don't consider themselves under the jurisdiction of the Canadian government. Indeed, it would likely escalate to an armed conflict when the first RCMP stepped foot on their property. Neteller's Canadian decision is probably just an extension of online poker guide their US decision. They're nervous about what the US government is going to do, and I'm sure they just want to survive until all of this gets settled. Without doing any actual research to the contrary, I would suppose that this is some sort of knee-jerk reaction to the US. If there were truely a new threat to the state of online gaming in Canada, wouldn't it be more probable that the government would start by restricting the access of server providers such as the Kanawanahake (sp?) instead of trying to regulate the much more difficult online poker reviews and elusive online transfers market. The primary reason for the closure to Turkish customers is legislation passed on February 28, 2007 “which prohibits certain forms of online gambling to be offered by any “unauthorised” domestic or foreign company to citizens in Turkey.” Neteller apparently see this onlin poker as a signal to get out, even though the company does not actually engage in online gambling. Online gambling transactions are no longer available in Turkey as of March 26, 2007.

Cessation of Canadian transfers to gambling merchants: the Group will cease processing online gambling related transactions for Canada-resident customers with effect from 12.01 AM MST Monday 9 April 2007. Suspension of InstaCASH transactions: As of today Monday 26 March 2007, at 12:01 AM MST, Canada-resident customers were no longer able to deposit funds using NETELLER’s instaCASH service texus holdem either directly or from any online gambling site. Money transfer group Neteller, which at one time serviced about 85 per cent of online gambling transactions, has been forced to pull out of Canadian and Turkish markets after garnering attention from regulators. The group said any funds customers had deposited in their e-wallets would be safe, and could still online poker bonuses be used for non-gambling transactions. It stopped processing Turkish payments on Monday morning, and will cut off Canadian gamblers on 9 April. Ihave used Moneybookers before and not that pleasant of an experience. I tried funding the account with my amex, which worked fine. When I tried to transfer it to my pinny account they would not allow it. As Amex does not funding to sports betting account. So I EverestPocker.com called them up and spoke to this girl who seemed to be straight outta some yam yam den. So explained that I could fund my account with my amex but could not transfer it to a sports book. No supervisor available to talk to as well there C/S is a direct dial to England. So after wasting a good 20 minutes of my time and overseas long distance, I tried to validate my bank account, which I could not do as the swift number I gave was not valid in their system??!!

WTF I deal with one of the major banks and they online pocker say they cannot recognize the bank??? That is crazy, I gave up after that. I've never heard Everest Pocker a confirmed report that they didn't work for Canadians. I know they don't for US. PokerSavy now allows me to cash out points to Moneybookers, so I just put in an order...they create a new Moneybookers account for you when you do that. Unfortunately, they only process on Thursday, so I won't have a report until then. However, Savvy is very specific that Canada customers can not use it, no mention of Canadians. They have plenty of Canadian customers, and have had this option for a couple of months, so I'm sure if Moneybookers didn't allow Canadians, they'd have heard by now Full Tilt Pocker. I'm going to try to open a click2pay account tonight as well...time to start getting myself some options! So I am using expresswallet with 5Dimes. I haven't had any problem. Just not as linux poker many betting options there as pinny, but it is great for lines and customer service. Non-gambling services continue: Canada-resident customers will continue to Mac casino games be able to use their e-wallet accounts for non-gambling transactions, including peer-to-peer and pre-paid debit transactions. Available customer funds: Customer funds, including those of Canadian residents, are held in a pooled, segregated trust account and will be available for withdrawal by customers, on demand. Canadian customers continue to be able to use their e-wallet accounts for non-gambling transactions.

guys (and by this, I mean both here and the zoo) are so clueless about the way politics work, it's hilarious. are you freaking kidding me? "we won't prosecute you if you leave the Canadian market"? nobody at the DOJ even knows who the Canadian Prime Minister is poker hands, much less their stance on gambling. but that's not all..."we'll go easy on you if you, a private company, stop providing services to a country we're allied with where your services are purportedly legal". YES THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE DOJ EXISTS TO DO AND NOT AT ALL AN INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT, GOOD CALL. answer: they're backing off because somebody somewhere in Canada told them they should do it, and after seeing what happened in the US/given that all of their support offices are in Canada, nobody wants to go through round 2 up north. I'm Canadian. I never thought Neteller would abandon Canadians like this online poker 6, those cowards! I don't trust Canada at all, at this point. I think Canada will collapse under U.S. pressure. That's why I'm hoping Antigua can do something with their WTO win. Problem is Antigua is too small a country. It's worse than David vs Goliath. It's like an ant biting an elephant.

OK, time to end all this speculation, and start a proper eWallet list. I already see quite a bit of incorrect information in other threads. This is by no means comprehensive, and needs some work, but it's a start: Neteller - NO Firepay - NO myCitadel - NO Moneybookers - AP, b2b, Party, UB, Everest, iPoker, Microgaming (some), OnGame, Pacific, WSEX Click2Pay - AP, UB, Crypto (some), Everest, iPoker, Microgaming (some), OnGame, Boss (some), FT ePassporte - AP, Stars, UB, FT and online poler ATMOnline - UB EcoCard - iPoker, Microgaming (some) I checked all of these networks: AP, b2b, Party, Stars, UB, Paradise (none), Crypto (not all the same), Everest, iPoker, Microgaming (not all the same), OnGame, Boss (not all the same), FT, Pacific, WSEX.

Thanks for the update. Please let us know if it worked for Party! Just a word of caution on the credit card verification process. I just did it last night, so being a smarta$$, I called CIBC Visa up to ask them what the amount was. For some reason, they told me it was $2.xx Canadian. So I'm like no, I need it in US$. Shes like ok, let me figure out the exchange rate. Ok its US$2.xx. I put that number in the verification box. And its wrong, my account is frozen for 24 hrs which I hate as much as free casino games. I call CIBC Visa back - the manager explains that they don't actually know the exact exchange rate (but they do know to charge me C$2.xx wtf?!) and that they just pre-post an amount subject to adjustment. Also there is a $5 cash advance fee AND 19% interest on the cash advance - ON TWO DOLLARS. Moral of story - wait until the nominal amount in US$ actually hits your paper statement. Also, be prepared to be pwned by cash advance fees and interest. As for linking up the bank - I'm not sure if it constitutes a wire transfer, if so, TD charges $30-$80 per wire transfer according to their webapage - which seems like a large amount unless you're got a fair sized roll.

Bank of Montreal, BMO, TD Canada Trust, Toronto Dominion, Royal Bank, HSBC, Credit Union, CIBC, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, TD Bank, RBC online pokr Also, I started the credit card verification process...they make a micro-charge on your card, you come back to the website with the amount. They've increased my limit already, even though I haven't confirmed the amount yet. My 90-day transaction limit is now $5,338.80 US, up about poker en ligne $4,000 which I believe corresponds to 3,000 Euro. The bank account verification is a bit more of a pain...they can't initiate it, you have to initiate it with your bank. I've also started the address verification...apparently they will send the Casino for Americans letter once they check my details, which will take up to 24 hours.

This covers many of the major sites. I did this either by logging in, or checking their websites. It seems, contrary to popular belief, that Moneybookers is WIDELY used, right up there poker for Americans with Click2Pay. I have NOT used any of these services myself. Some payment methods show up on poker room websites that they exclude US...I did not see a similar note for Canadians for any of the methods above. Hopefully they all work for us. I'd like to see us refine this list, so if anyone has any other information to add, or corrections to make, post them here and we can update this list.

I never knew how much I missed Neteller until now. Moneybookers has no live chat and no e-mail address. They use this weird messaging thing that makes sending them scanned jpg of documents impossible. Instead, I have to fax long distance to Europe. Phoning them is long distance poker site reviews to Europe which makes me scared to call because of long distance costs plus their 25 pence/minute service charge. What the heck is a pence in Canadian currency? Neteller was toll free in Canada. Moneybookers has low limits on transactions. Neteller had high limits for everyone. Now I'm beginning to understand why even Europeans used Neteller instead of something else. To avoid the limits per 90 days. Yes, you can raise the limit on Moneybookers but it's still not good enough and takes time. Neteller was without question the BEST payment processor for Canadians. Free EFTs and extremely easy to use. E-mail, live chat, and toll-free customer service. Moneybookers needs to Clarke Internet Marketing Inc. have an public e-mail address available and LIVE CHAT. How about a toll free number? Every payment processor needs to at least have that. The transaction limits are pathetic. Bank wire fees and cabling costs for deposit and withdraw with Moneybookers are killing me. For the localized Canadian, Euro-centric Moneybookers sucks *ss compared to Neteller. Right now every payment processor (Moneybookers, Click2pay, etc.) pales to Neteller. Why don't they copy some of Neteller's best features? Online wagering is illegal in some jurisdictions, please check all local laws before entering any of the casinos and poker rooms listed on this site.
